The Brief

We completed a series of short films for University of Wales Trinity St David (UWTSD) celebrating 200 years of education in Wales.

We looked to highlight the role that UWTSD has played in Welsh education by documenting their celebrations in both Carmarthen and Swansea and capturing some interviews about the significance of institution it is in Wales.

The Process

We attended celebration events in both Carmarthen and Swansea where we were able to capture how important UWTSD has been to higher education.

For this series we managed to speak to UWTSD Vice-Chancellor Professor Medwin Hughes who spoke of how the educational and religious values of the university really stood out to him. This interview was crucial to understanding the culture and values that UWTSD have and gives the university a story to tell rather than just any other education institute.

Hughes was also able to complete another interview in Welsh for us which gave us an opportunity to showcase the Welsh language. UWTSD have looked to provide people the best opportunity to demonstrate knowledge and passion for the Welsh language and have been able to attract those who have wished to study in the Welsh Language and able to create new friends and take opportunities as a result of the Welsh Language. This closely aligns with one of Stori Cymru’s brand values in terms of using the Welsh language in business and how brands can reap the benefits of this.

We also managed to interview MS Eluned Morgan minister for Health and Social services in Wales who reflected on the impact that UWTSD has had on education in South Wales. It was a significant boost to have someone high profile as part of this film and that it’s had an everlasting impact on both education and the community in Carmarthen and is crucial in attracting talent to the area.

As part of our Swansea short film we captured footage of an event in St Mary’s Church and the importance of vocational tradition in the Swansea campus and how important these aspects of education are to UWTSD.

The Result

From the interviews completed and the shots we captured of the events that took place in Carmarthen and Swansea we demonstrated how important UWTSD is to its respective areas and has done a tremendous job of serving as a pillar of education in South Wales.

We also demonstrated the passion that UWTSD has for Wales as a nation and how they have looked to bring communities together as a result of the work they do. From the UWTSD website it is clear that collaboration is a big part of what they do and this collaborative approach has allowed them to develop close bonds.
