Admiral Data Community

Admiral Data Community

The Brief

We were asked to make a short form video on their data community and what makes the data community a major part of what Admiral do. There have also been numerous success stories that have come from this project in which we looked to demonstrate.

One of the reasons that this project was particularly appealing to us was due to the brand story of Admiral and how they have looked to give opportunities for staff to develop in the company. The culture of the company was also an appealing factor behind this success story. Admiral built their brand culture on four pillars of communication, equality, reward & recognition and fun. These values have helped make Admiral a great place to work with a poll in 2020 finding them in the Sunday Times best companies to work for.

Admiral are a UK based insurance company that cover a wide range of insurance policies from car, home, pet and more. Admiral emphasised that they are all about making life simple listing examples such as multicover insurance and the Admiral app as to how they are looking to simplify insurance for customers.

The Process

In our video the most significant thing we managed to emphasise was the company culture and how they provide the right environment and support for employees to develop their skills in the industry. One of the major points we looked to demonstrate is that Admiral are looking to provide opportunities whether you have experience in the insurance industry or whether you are a novice they have the right training and programmes that allows employees to thrive in the role.

Admiral are constantly looking to help get more people into the data community. One way of doing this is by allowing people to learn more about insurance and the data concepts behind it or even the opportunity to specialize in a specific area. From providing a range of ways to progress in the company, this contributes significantly towards Admiral’s emphasis on rewarding great work and why employees are very happy working for the company.

There is also a large stress placed on opportunity to network within the company and develop shared interests. Getting involved in different aspects of the business is one of the main things that is encouraged in order for those who wish to broaden their knowledge or specialize in a specific area. One way that learning is encouraged is through Admiral’s Data and AI Academy, Admiral state that the Data and AI Academy had four main objectives with those being to bring together the data community, educate the business on data skills, champion diversity and inclusion and general data training and development. The data community is a large community with over 900 people working in the field which is testament to the culture that Admiral have looked to promote.

We also looked to demonstrate examples of stories that have come from the company with several employees feeling that the data community contributed to their success. Examples of this included the Data Future programme and the 20% projects initiative. Admiral also hosted the Data Community awards night which has been great for employee morale and giving employees a chance to catch up with others and learn about other projects taking place within the company.

The Result

The result was very positive as we successfully demonstrated both the company culture and how opportunities are provided by the company for people to enhance their knowledge and skills as well as proven success stories coming from those within Admiral.

We managed to speak to several employees who explained how Admiral have looked to innovate and develop which is key to why every business is successful and with the range of success stories that we showed, it is clear that the Admiral data community has been a huge success due to the amount of positive experiences and stories of progression from Admiral’s data community that were captured in our short film.

Admiral have constantly looked to tell their brand story through their work and the data community was an exemplary example of this due to the personal connections formed and how this led to employees constantly looking to learn more.
