The Brief

Coron Projects are a project management firm that aim to assist project delivery for small to medium sized firms that are looking to gain and improve their services in their respective fields.

We were asked to create two short films for their Base Camp service which focuses on getting people started and more confident with the demands of project delivery and leadership. In our films we sat down with Coron Projects founder Gerwyn Tumelty to reflect on his personal experiences and how this inspired him to set up Coron Projects.

The Process

In our videos Tumelty reflects on personal experience from his background in engineering with the Royal Navy to identify issues within the engineering and construction industry and having worked a variety of roles from client side, contractor, sub-contractor and in the supply chain this has helped the business establish credibility in the sector.

In our first other video Tumelty reflected on his personal experiences to stress the importance of good project management in business. During our interview he explained how he had developed skills in the navy that could be transitioned to other forms of engineering as well as other areas of business.

In our other video we identified issues with the current systems in the industry in particular amongst SME businesses. The main issue being the lack of support that project managers are currently facing and managers as well as structure and sometimes lacking experience in certain environments and this can cause businesses problems when collaborating with other companies. There are several issues that arise as a result of this lack of support such as projects and decisions being rushed through and also managers not being confident in their decision making. This can cause doubts not just amongst project managers but amongst business owners as well. These are the issues that the base camp project looks to address.

Base Camp is a 4–6-month programme which offers a blend of both practical training and 1 to 1 support in order to develop skills as a project manager for an SME. By doing this the aim at the end of the programme will be to improve leadership, delivery, reporting, clear confidence and business bottom line.

During both videos we managed to capture some outdoor footage through the use of drone capture to get some of the shots.

The Result

In this instance we managed to create a film that highlighted every key aspect from problem, solution and personal experience and how this all went into looking to provide support for individuals as well as the industry as a whole.

One of the main reasons that this film was very successful was the authenticity behind it. Due to Tumelty’s background, he was very aware of the issues that could arise from insufficient support in project management and with this often being a problem he is particularly keen to address these problems by providing the right support to project managers. This has always been our key principle at Stori Cymru with the feeling that businesses always have more appeal when they have a story to tell, with Coron Projects there was clear story that Tumelty wanted to make people aware of leading to this being a very successful project for all involved.
