The Brief

We worked with Llanelli School of Music and Drama in order to help create a short film demonstrate how the school is looking to provide opportunities for those who look to develop their passions for subjects in the creative industry.

We looked to gain several different perspectives and experiences from the school and many involved have looked to pass their passions on to others and provide further opportunities for others to pursue areas such as music and drama.

There are several different ways of getting involved with Llanelli School of Music and Drama providing lessons in drama, singing and instruments with specialist tutors across these areas.

The Process

Music has played a crucial role in Wales and has had a tremendous impact on Welsh culture. Welsh history and cultural site Walespast noted that events such as the National Eisteddfod have done a lot for music in Wales as well as music being seen as a way of resistance with the national anthem “Hen Wlad fy Nhadau” and “Yma O Hyd” as examples.

In the film we looked to demonstrate the key role that music still plays on the lives of people here in Wales. All those involved in our video looked to highlight the importance of music in their lives whether it be just as a hobby or wanting to go further. From speaking to some of the students at the school a few of the children in our short film said that they wanted to achieve high grades in their respective field simply to learn a new skill. It was crucial for us that we highlighted personal experiences to show just how much of a significant impact that the school has had in providing a platform for all involved to showcase their talents.

From speaking to both teachers and students we demonstrated the passion for music that exists and there is a genuine curiosity from students about music. We spoke to guitar tutor Adam who highlighted how many come to him with questions which he has felt quite rewarding and that he feels that he can make a positive difference for someone.

The main message that was demonstrated throughout the video was about how rewarding it can be when students go on to achieve big things in the industry or even just if it puts a smile on people’s faces.

We also highlighted how people could get in touch via email to offer a route into the creative industry.

The Result

Our film successfully highlighted the passion that the school and the individuals involved have for their fields from both a teaching and studying perspective. As well as this there were many people who were happy to speak with us which really helped us make this film great and hopefully encourage more people to take up music.

This brand story aligned with us due to the fact that Llanelli School of Music and Drama have been all about providing opportunity for young people to break into the industry and provide an opportunity for those looking to tutor. Our video demonstrated that all of those involved had their own stories as to why the music industry has been beneficial to them. At Stori Cymru we believe that it is crucial that every brand has a story behind it and that they are able to tell a story that connects with the wider public.
