The Brief

We were asked to create short film interviewing some of the main beneficiaries from this deal and they were able to explain what the project was and how this project is going to benefit the area.

The National Institute for Sport and Health (NISH) is a project that Swansea University, Swansea Bay City Deal as well as both Swansea Bay and Hywel Dda health boards are all about enhancing digital innovation in healthcare, medicine and sport technology.

The Process

In our film we managed to get numerous interviews with those involved who emphasised the benefits of NISH and the development of facilities in the Swansea Bay area aimed at providing better treatments, improving patient care, preventing ill-health and improving sport.

We placed a great emphasis on the main themes behind making the project successful with a large focus on community and collaboration that happened between all parties involved and that through this approach this will significantly contribute to Wales. With our emphasis on storytelling, we successfully covered all aspects behind making the project successful and also what this project means for the future. There were several different bases to cover in regards to projects and many different organizations involved in the project, this was a great opportunity for Stori Cymru to highlight several different perspectives that meant something to all those involved. With the main aims of the project being in health, medicine and technology in sport there were several stories to be told.

We were able to help bring attention to this project by including NISH strategic advisor and former Welsh rugby player Alun Wyn Jones who spoke very well of the aims of the project. As a result of his presence and with Jones being a Welsh speaker, we were able to complete part of the film in Welsh which was a significant bonus for us when creating this film.

The Result

This was a highly diverse project that placed a strong emphasis on community and collaborations and through this, the project can deliver its main objectives of delivering better treatments, improving patient care, prevent ill-health and supporting sport through providing world-class facilities and delivering for those involved with the project.

The project has also looked to provide an economic boost to the area in terms of both investment and job creation. Swansea University state that “the project is planned to generate over 1,000 jobs in the Swansea area and will be worth over £150 million to the regional economy by 2033”

One of the most exciting elements of this project is that this is potentially game-changing in the sports technology field. NISH director Professor Keith Lloyd explained the impact that the NISH project will have on Wales as a whole stating that it would put Wales “on the global map for cutting edge research, product development and community health innovation” as well as a “catalyst for discovery, investment and improved wellbeing”
