The Brief

We were asked to create a short film to highlight the new partnership between Scarlets and Gravells which demonstrated the close relationship which has been formed over the 25 years that the companies have worked together.

The Scarlets rugby team have recently signed a deal with long-term partners Gravells to continue sponsoring the team as both a kit sponsor and commercial partner and we helped create a short film demonstrating one of the ways in which the partnership has worked well.

Rugby has played a huge role in the history of Llanelli with many landmark events such as when Llanelli beat New Zealand 9-3 in 1972 and with Scarlets last winning the league in 2017.

Gravells are a car dealership based in Wales and Hereford with well known car manufacturers such as Renault, Kia and Dacia having Gravells as their respective dealership.

The Process

We looked to highlight just how important this deal was and how this successful partnership between sport and local businesses is important to the Llanelli area.

This was crucial as Scarlets rugby play a vital role in both a cultural and economic standpoint with rugby being such a big part of culture in Llanelli and the club can help by drawing attention to local businesses. Scarlets have also done this successfully with other brands that have a large presence in the area such as Castell Howell, Dyfed Steels and Owens and Gravells is just another example of how the Scarlets promote brands.

The Scarlets have meant a lot to Llanelli from an economic standpoint. A report published by Carmarthenshire County Council revealed that “in 2024/25, Scarlets generated a total economic impact of £17.3 million in gross value” these figures are a combination of staff spending, supply chain, direct impacts and visitor impacts.

We also looked to add a personal feeling to the brand story with Scott Williams speaking about his experiences with cars describing himself as “a petrol head” during the film.

We also managed to capture a variety of shots for the film such as drone footage and some interior shots with Scott Williams speaking to the camera about the car and rugby. It was important for us that we placed an emphasis on what both brands do and provided a background as to why the partnership has been so successful.

The Result

As a result of this project, we have also continued to develop our relationship with Scarlets rugby and have worked for the club in podcast production. A project that the club recently started is the Scarlets podcast and we have been trusted to produce the podcast for the club.

We looked to ensure that we captured an authentic story behind the partnership to provide perspective as to how beneficial this has been for the club and sponsor and this was a major reason behind why this was a successful project for Stori Cymru to be a part of.
