The Brief

We were approached by the Scarlets rugby team to produce the brand-new Scarlets Podcast. The podcast is hosted by Garan Evans and focuses on the past, present and future of Scarlets rugby. Evans is joined by a variety of guests every week to discuss everything Scarlets and giving supporters insight to the culture at the club.

Scarlets rugby have played a huge role in the history of rugby in Llanelli having delivered the town a league title in the 2016/17 season, the first since the inception of the Celtic League. The Llanelli team has also played a prominent role in the town, long before the inception of the Scarlets in 2002. The most notable achievement being a 9-3 win over New Zealand in 1972.

The Process

For the podcast we looked to offer high quality production to help grow your podcast. More and more people are turning to podcasts with sports-based podcasts becoming very popular on services such as YouTube and Spotify. We have managed to work with high profile individuals in Scarlets rugby such as Jonathan Davies and Aaron Shingler who has featured on Stori Cymru’s What’s Your Stori? podcast.

The purpose of this role was about helping the Scarlets get a wider audience and through having a podcast this was one of the best forms of doing this. Podcasts are a growing platform in the UK in terms of communication and the Scarlets are taking advantage of this by launching their podcast on both YouTube and Spotify. Scarlets are also the first of the four Welsh regions to host an official club podcast.

One of the major bonuses of this podcast is the diverse range of topics related to rugby and talking to both past and present players this can bring in a range of viewers that can relate to their time watching and supporting the Scarlets. Due to the wide range of guests that have featured on the podcast so far, this has been hugely beneficial with fans being able to reflect on past glories as well as bring focus to the current team.

The Scarlets have developed a good reputation outside of rugby with several community projects in particular with children in hospital and using rugby to bring joy to children in the area. This podcast is the latest in a move that will do a lot for the Scarlets community and will help widen the presence of the Scarlets online.

The Result

We completed a high quality series of podcasts with the Scarlets about what's been taking place at the club as well as reflecting on past glories.

With the Scarlets being one of the most recognisable brands in Llanelli this was a great project for Stori Cymru to work on as we are always keen to work with local businesses. Scarlets have had a positive impact on local business with the club sponsored by several local businesses such as Gravells and Castell Howell and have long lasting partnerships with these brands. We have previously worked with Scarlets on their Gravells sponsorship announcement. This film featured Scott Williams driving one of Gravells new Kia cars around Pembrey circuit and relating this experience to his own life experiences.

Scarlets have shared a similar belief to Stori Cymru when it comes to working with local brands and bringing attention to Llanelli and the area as a whole. We have completed numerous high-profile projects in South Wales making short films for high profile companies such as Carmarthenshire County Council, Swansea University and the Welsh Government.
