The Brief

British Triathlon are an organisation that are run by Triathlon England, Welsh Triathlon and Triathlon Scotland and are responsible for a range of matters such as governance and safeguarding.

We completed a short film for the British Triathlon Foundation on the World Triathlon Para-Series that came to Swansea and how young kids are being inspired to get involved in triathlon.

The Process

With this piece, we felt that the best way to approach this was by getting interviews and demonstrating footage of the children partaking in the events that were held. We also wanted to get high profile individuals such as Para-tri super-series athlete Darren Williams and Olympic and World Triathlon champion Helen Jenkins to speak about the benefits of triathlon and how it can inspire people to take part in triathlon.

The main thing we looked to highlight was the amount of children looking to get involved in triathlon and how accessible triathlon is by both getting children taking part and by hosting the World Triathlon Para-Series in Swansea this has also been a major boost to bringing attention to triathlon.

We bought attention to a session in which children were taking part in individual classes in swimming, cycling and running. We captured numerous shots where the children were enjoying the lessons. We managed to demonstrate all three activities in the film with various shots being featured in the film of the track used for the cycling and running legs as well as brief shots of the pool in use.

We managed to speak to Darren Williams and champion Helen Jenkins to speak of the benefits of triathlon for young people. In our interviews with Jenkins and Williams they emphasised how they would have found the sport even more beneficial had triathlon been more accessible to them growing up. Jenkins also touched on how triathlon hadn’t been that accessible in terms of local events being staged and that had there been more local events, she felt that she would have been inspired even further. Jenkins also added that triathlon is a great spectator sport and that this would help inspire people going forward.

We looked to involve Williams and Jenkins in as many of the clips we could and managed to capture them handing out medals to the children that took part in the event and they posed for photos with some of the children.

The Result

British Triathlon were very happy with how the film turned out in regards to the footage captured and the interviews that we did as this helped demonstrate how accessible triathlon is and how much they enjoyed taking part.

We were very happy with the approach that was taken and agreed to and successfully covered what the event was all about from a sporting point of view and what it was all about promoting for the future.
