Xcel Project Short Film

Towy Community Church

The Brief

Towy Community Church approached us with an inspiring task: to commemorate 10 years of their transformative Xcel Project. Xcel provides vital support to the Carmarthen community through a diverse range of services, including a community bowling alley, a food bank, a furniture store, and a debt advice service.

Our goal was to create a series of short, detailed films that captured the heart of this mission, explaining the why behind each initiative and highlighting the family-like culture that makes it all possible.

The Process

To truly showcase Xcel’s positive impact, we knew an authentic, story-driven approach was essential. We got on the ground, captured people in action, and spoke directly with the individuals driving the project forward.

Xcel Furniture

One element of the project is their successful furniture store. Their manager Hywel Griffiths shares a moving story of a local woman who received much-needed support to furnish her home when she had nothing. Not only is this an example of serving the community, it's showcasing sustainability in action with repurposing furniture and preventing waste going to landfill.

Money Advice Service

Tackling financial struggles requires an immense amount of vulnerability. In this film, we focused on the culture of empathy and the strong emotional connections the team builds to establish trust. Manager Carolyn Yelland shared a poignant story about working with a father of two facing difficult circumstances.

Carmarthen Foodbank

To capture the reality of the cost-of-living crisis, we sat down with Manager Cath Cork. She candidly discussed the growing reliance on food banks, emphasizing the sobering truth that even working families are now being forced to use their services to make ends meet. To illustrate the sheer scale of their work, the film highlights the monumental effort of their 26 dedicated volunteers who are currently helping to feed roughly 3,300 people in the community.

Xcel Bowl

While services like the food bank and debt advice offer vital lifelines, the Xcel bowling alley serves as the vibrant, joyful hub of the community. In this promo, we focused on capturing the fun, energetic atmosphere that brings people of all ages together. It perfectly illustrates the overarching “family feel” of the project, providing a welcoming, safe space for locals to connect, relax, and celebrate while supporting the wider charitable mission of Towy Community Church.

The Result

The result was a series of impactful, authentic brand films that successfully translated the culture, compassion, and faith of the Xcel Project for the screen. Each video represents a different facet of the charity, all united by a core value: supporting people through their most challenging times.
